There are many things to deal with when arriving in a new country. We have made an overview of the most important issues to handle before and upon arrival to Denmark, and hope this will make your arrival become smooth.

    Accommodation

    We recommend you to apply for accommodation as soon as your affiliation to Aalborg University has been confirmed (further information will be provided in your letter of enrollment/letter of appointment). Aalborg University has a limited selection of furnished accommodation for international students and staff in Aalborg.?

    Students with disabillities

    Aalborg University has a limited selection of accommodation for students with disabilities. Please contact us in case you have a documented disability.?

    Residence permit

    A residence permit / residence document is crucial to study or work in Denmark.

    Non EU/EEA citizens

    Citizens from a non-EU/EEA country need a residence permit to be allowed to reside in Denmark for more than 3 months. Aalborg University will begin the application and guide you through the process when you have been enrolled/appointed. Familiarize yourself with the rules and follow the instructions we give you. It is extremely important that you submit the residence permit well in advance before your arrival.?

    EU/EEA citizens

    Citizens from an EU/EEA country must apply for a residence document upon arrival to Denmark.?

    Insurance

    Make sure to take out adequate insurances during your stay in Denmark. If you bring your dog or vehicle you are obligated to take out Third-party liability insurance ("ansvarsforsikring").

    We strongly recommend you to take out a Home Insurance - covering your personal belongings (mobile devices, clothes, damages inside your accommodation etc) in case of damages such as e.g. fire in your accommodation. It also covers expenses if you must pay compensation to another person, due to an accident.?

    Adequate insurances are extremely important. Find an elaboration of insurances in Denmark and recommendations for the most important insurances.

    AAU-Account and Mail

    You must create an AAU-Account before your arrival to Aalborg University. The AAU-Account includes your AAU-Mail to which, you will receive important information e.g. where to pick up your AAU card (an identification card that you must carry in a visible place on campus). Information about Moodle (an online platform with information about locations, booklist etc.) will also be provided through your AAU mail.

    Students will recieve an email with further information on how to create an AAU-Account soon after having received a confirmation of enrollment.?

    It is important to visit IT-start before you arrive to Aalborg University and you need to active your AAU-Account well in advance.

    Introduction Program

    Aalborg University hosts an introduction program for new international students every semester. The program is divided into two:

    • A Pre-arrival Webinar (online)
    • Welcome Week activities (on campus)

    The Introduction Program is aimed specifically at helping you get a good start at AAU. The program is for all new international full-degree, exchange and guest students and interns.

    Moodle - platform with study information

    "Moodle" is an online platform with all the necessary information about your program e.g., booklist, course plans, locations etc. You must also register for modules and exams in Moodle. You will recieve an email to your AAU mail approx 14 days prior to study start with information about how to access Moodle.

    In Moodle you will find the online module “Get ready for Uni AAU”, to prepare you for your new student life at Aalborg University.

    Moodle is an essential online platform with important information about your study program. You must also register for exams and modules through Moodle.?

    CPR registration

    Soonest possible after your arrival to Denmark, you must register for a CPR no. But before you can register for a CPR no. you must have received your residence permit/document.?

    How to register for a CPR no. depends on your nationality and the campus city you are enrolled in. It applies though to all nationalities that physical attendance at the municipality is required. For Copenhagen and Aalborg Campus we have arranged special services for the Fall semestres.? ?

    Digital signature (MitID)

    MitID is Denmark’s common logon solution for public self-service, online banking, etc. and it is mandatory for all Danish citizens. Approx. 24 hours after having obtained your CPR no. you can (and must) create your MitID. When you visit the municipality to apply for your CPR no. you will be guided on how to obtain your MitID.?
