Aalborg University's Master's program in Electronic Systems is aimed at bachelor students interested in machine learning, signal processing, wireless communication and automation and control.

The foundation of the Master's program is the overarching topics: machine learning and signal processing, control and automation, and communication technology including radio systems.

You will learn about stochastic systems and signals, as well as their mathematical modeling, and how models can be applied in the analysis and design of complex interconnected/distributed systems. You will be taught methods for data acquisition and measurement, including principles and applications of physical sensors. You will gain knowledge of theories and methods for the design and implementation of resource-optimal real-time systems on embedded platforms, and you will gain experience in modeling and optimizing complex systems in relation to, for example, complex control, reliable communication, and advanced machine learning & signal processing.

As a specialist in Electronic Systems you will be able to make a difference in areas such as:

  • New electronic hardware, such as antennas, filters, and amplifiers for improved communication in small terminals and embedded systems, with applications in new areas such as healthcare, Internet of Things, autonomous driving, etc.
  • Intelligent electronics and systems whose overall performance and energy efficiency are improved through machine learning.
  • Ultra-reliable communication for smart manufacturing, autonomous vehicles, and unmanned aerial vehicles (drones).
  • Process control for embedded systems (with machine intelligence), from electronic hardware to software.
  • Systems with Artificial Intelligence for improved products, services, and living conditions.

Academic content

The master’s programme in Electronic Systems at Aalborg University is comprised by four semesters where you work with gradually more complex subjects.

See the curriculum for the master’s programme in Electronic Systems. Here, you may find details on courses and projects as well as information on the programme’s legal basis, etc.

Compulsory for all non-AAU bachelors

All bachelors enrolled in the programme who have not obtained their bachelor's degree from Aalborg University must take part in a course on problem based learning (PBL) as part of the 1st semester project. In case non-AAU bachelors get credit transfer for the 1st semester, they will be asked to take part in a course ensuring that they are trained in working according to the PBL-model.?Read more about PBL here.

Semester descriptions

Traineeship

In the 3rd semester of the master’s programme in Electronic Systems, you have the opportunity to go abroad or spend your semester in a company.

Aalborg University cooperates with a range of universities across the world and has well-established contacts in industry both in regards to student projects and company internships. The International Office at Aalborg University may assist you with guidance, but you must make your own preparations, incl. checking whether you need advanced credit transfer, looking for accommodation, checking up on insurance, visa and possible needed vaccinations, and, if relevant, how to avoid a lapse of your Danish residence permit.
