Empty-place Scheme
Empty-place Scheme
If you are an EU/EEA citizen and live in or near Aalborg, Esbjerg or Copenhagen - where Aalborg University has campuses and programmes - and are able to participate in single courses at Aalborg University in the daytime on weekdays, you can apply for admission through the socalled "Empty-place Scheme" (tompladsordningen).
As a student enrolled under this scheme you participate in selected parts of the programmes that the University's full-time students are enrolled in and under the same conditions. You must pay a tuition fee for each course.
Please note: If you are not an EU/EEA citizen, you will only be able to apply for admission to single courses through the empty-place scheme if you can present a residence permit for Denmark issued due to other activities in Denmark (e.g. work or full-time studies). The Danish Immigration Service does not issue residence permits for single course studies.
If you are enrolled under the empty-place scheme, you can complete no more than:
- 90 ECTS credits of a bachelor degree and
- 60 ECTS credits of a Master's degree
It is not possible to complete an entire bachelor or Master's degree under this?scheme. It is, however, possible to complete a?minor (90 ECTS credits in total of which 45 ECTS credits are at the bachelor level and 45 ECTS credits are at the Master's level).
You cannot be enrolled at the final project at a bachelor or a Master's programme through the empty-place scheme.
If you want to study full-time for a period, you are?only allowed to study for a maximum of?one year as a full-time student under the scheme. One year of full-time studies carries 60 ECTS credits.
In order to be admitted there must be empty student places at the course/courses. The University reserves the right not to admit?qualified applicants due to insufficient?capacity.
The semesters run from:
- September 1 - January 31 (fall semester) and
- February 1 - June 30 (spring semester).
